What is Salonika fabric?

Working as a fashion designer will require you to work with several fabrics every day. Therefore as a designer, you will need to acquire as much information as you can get about the intended fabric for your pending project.

Arming yourself with adequate knowledge about your intended fabric will allow you to determine its suitability for your next project. Although I have written so much about different types of fabrics in the past, this time around, I will be talking extensively about a unique fabric type: Salonika fabric.

What is Salonika fabric

Since this fabric is not that popular, I know you are probably wondering, “what is Salonika fabric?” what are they made of? What language is it? Interestingly it is some of these questions that form the body of this article; why don’t you dive in already?  

What are Salonika fabrics? 

Salonika fabrics are percale weave-based and closely woven fabrics known for their durability. The durability of this fabric makes it an ideal material for making bedding articles like quilt covers, comforters, linen sets, and duvet covers.

What are Salonika fabrics made of? 

Salonika fabrics are made exclusively with cotton materials. 

What are cotton Salonika fabrics? 

Cotton Salonika is just as its name implies, and they are made of cotton, which is the form most Salonika fabrics appear in. 

What country is Salonika in? 

Salonika fabrics are spread across several countries; you will see this fabric in the United Arab Emirates, the Kindom of Saudi Arabia, and the United States of America. 

What language is Salonika? 

Even though the origin of Salonica fabric is traced to the middle east, the word Salonika is of Greek origin, and It’s a name of a city in Greece. Whether or not there’s a connection between this fabric and the country is a misery that still needs to be resolved.

What is Gaji fabric? 

Gaji fabric is a soft and lightweight fabric known for its smooth surface. This fabric is native to the western part of India, where it is used in making their traditional wears: tie and dye sarees.

The rich and smooth texture of the fabric is a result of the handspun and handloom they are made to undergo during the production process, and this is why they are considered suitable for modern-day wears like shirts, overcoats, dresses, suits, and gowns.

Absorblite fabrics are microfiber materials made with 20% polyamide and 80% polyester. This is the fabric used in making Tesalate towels known for its ability to retain water without getting drippy.

Salonika, also known as Thessaloniki or Thessalonica, is the capital city of Macedonia. The city is said to be the 2nd largest in Greece, with over a million population. 

What is silk mikado fabric? 

Silk mikado fabric, also known as silk zibeline, is structured silk easily identified with its smooth and soft surface texture. This fabric is woven with wool or pure silk, or a mixture of both, which makes it appear crispy, sturdy, and without so much weight.

Silk mikado is suitable for making wearable clothes like structured tops, bridal wear, trousers, jackets, evening wears, and skirts. 

What is a Satin fabric cloth? 

Firstly, you should know that the Satin in “satin fabric” is used in the weaving technique ( Satin is among the major textile weaves) and not the material used in making the fabric. Therefore, Satin fabric is the product of making satin weaves with either nylon, silk, or polyester material.

This type of material is uniquely identified with its double surfaces: a lustrous and soft surface on one side and a dull surface on the other side of the fabric and are used in making footwear, upholstery, bedsheets, fashion accessory, and clothes. 

What is Satin silk fabric? 

While Satin fabric is the general term used for describing satin weave made with any polyester, silk, or nylon, Satin silk fabric is more specific as it refers to satin fabrics made with silk, and this is the major material used in making Satin fabric.

Silk satin material is the one used in making satin weaves to create satin fabric. In essence, it is a silk material used for making satin fabric. 

What fabric is Satin? 

Satin is not considered a fabric but a weaving technique used in cloth making. However, when Satin is used together with the material used in making it, it can be referred to as a fabric. For example, polyester satin fabric, nylon satin fabric, or silk satin fabrics.

These names are the results of using polyester, nylon, and silk to make satin weaves. 

What fabric is silk? 

Silk is a protein fiber comprising majorly of fibroin which gives the material its satin texture. Silk is naturally obtained from silkworms and tiny creatures that live on mulberry leaves. Any fabric made of this material is referred to as silk fabric. 

What is the bridal satin fabric? 

Bridal Satin is a satin weave fabric commonly used in the bridal industry for making gowns and dresses. Even though this kind of fabric is heavy and thick, it has a distinctive shiny surface and soft texture. This fabric is also popular in the party rental industry because of its unique color waves.
